Written for Kensington Brass Quintet in their 2026 season, these 3 Elizabethan Dances are a perfect early-recital item for an energised and traditional renaissance brass style piece. After years of performing the Tielman Susato Suite of Danserye, I went on a research journey into alternative composers and dances of the era to find new ways to present this audience-favourite genre on brass. Premiered at the Dunster Festival in Somerset, this short collection of 3 dances was well received by both players and audience alike. It has been sensitively arranged with cues, alternative parts, calculated page turns and plenty of bars rest for optimum recital usage.

Anthony Holborne (1545 – 1602) was a composer of music for lute, cittern and instrumental consort during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Having studied in 1562 at Pembroke College, Cambridge, he was a successful composer with a prolific output including Pavans, Galliards, Almains and other short Aeirs. These 65 compositions and his book for the Cittern school of playing form the largest surviving collections of their kind today.
